Background of CIIF
China International Industry Fair (CIIF) is a national-level industrial event, which is authorized and hosted by Chinese government, mainly showing and trading electromechanical products. Currently, in terms of exhibition space, exhibitors and visitors’ quality, and management level, CIIF is believed to be very typical in China. And it has 4 major functions of exhibition, trading, assessment & awarding (the only approved industrial fair to issue Gold, Silver, Copper and Scientific Innovation awards), and forum. And the core function is trading, through which we make professional exhibitors & visitor gathering, make manufacturing equipment gathering, and make information & new technology gathering. Coming from Shanghai International Industry Fair in Dec. 1999, CIIF is now 9 years old, and we will celebrate her 10th anniversary in 2008.
From 13-17 Dec. 1999, the first “Shanghai International Industry Fair (SIIF)” was jointly organized by State Economic and Trade Committee, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and Shanghai Municipal Government, with total exhibition space of 15,000sqm and about 400 exhibitors. The aim was to accelerate industry upgrade, to help Chinese industrial, scientific & research, trading companies to build international business relationship, to increase the trading of electromechanical products.
In 2000, Mr. Jiang Zeming – the President of China at that time hand-wrote “Shanghai International Industry Fair” in Chinese calligraphy. In chinese culture, this was really a great honor to us.
Since 2001, Chinese government put more resources in SIIF, by making 3 organizers to 8, which respectively were National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information Industry, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Science, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
In 2007, the organizers of CIIF were finally made to 9, 2 more national departments added, which were the Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Currently, CIIF’s organizers are 8 national departments, plus Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, with China Machinery Industry Federation as co-organizer, and Shanghai World Expo (Group) Co., Ltd. as show management.
Overview of CIIF 2007
CIIF 2007 was held at Shanghai World Expo Centre from Nov. 6-10, with the theme as “Scientific & Technological Innovation and Equipment Manufacturing”, and highlighting Key Equipment. Its major functions were “Trade, Exhibition, Assessment and Forum”, while “Trade” was the core function. The total exhibition area covered 104,200 sqm, including indoor area 103,500sqm, and outdoor area 720sqm. CIIF 2007 had 7 specialized shows, which were Key Technology & Equipment Show (KTES), Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show (MWCS), Industrial Automation Show (IAS), Energy Show (ES), Information Technology Equipment Show (ITES), Environmental Protection Technology & Equipment Show (EPTES), Scientific & Technological Innovation Show (STIS).
Exhibitors Quality Improved, International Show Emerging
Totally 1,775 exhibitors participated in CIIF 2007. and 1,398 of them were from 27 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China. Famous exhibitors were China Huaneng Group, Shanghai Electric Group, CNPC, Tian Wei Group, SMIC, Shanghai Port Machinery, CSSC, ACAC, Shengyang Machine Tool Group, Wuhan Heavy Duty Machine Tool Group, Qier Machine Tool Group, Qinchuan Machine Tool Group, CHINT, Delta-CIMIC, Siasun Robot, SVA, CHUTIAN LASER, MOBILE CHINA, Liangxin Electrical, Shanghai Hua Yi (Group), Baosteel Group, etc. Moreover, there were 377 exhibitors from over 20 countries/regions, such as AMADA, SPINNER, BALLUFF, TAEGUTEC, FLOW, BYSTRONIC, FANUC, SIEMENS, ABB, NORTEL, FUJI Electric, KAWASAKI, TOSHIBA, PHOENIX, EMERSON, HONEYWELL, RITTAL, PRO-FACE, PHILIPS, IBIDEN Engineering, Aichi Japan, etc. Overall, there were 356 exhibitors in World Top 500 or leading companies in relevant business.
Respectively, overseas exhibitors occupied 31.3% of total exhibition area, Shanghai exhibitors took 27.9%, and other home exhibitors occupied 40.8%.
The internationalization of CIIF2007 was improved, and the area covered by overseas exhibitors kept growing continuously. International exhibitors accounted for 34.7% in MWCS, 33.6% in ES, 52.4% in IAS, 27.2% in ITES, and 22.7% in EPTES respectively. We could say Chinese market now is more and more attractive to international exhibitors. Meanwhile, the above statistics also indicate that foreigners have more interest in metal-working, industry automation and energy industries. This is because in recent years Chinese market always has great demands and import to products of these industries.
In the cake of foreign exhibition area, Asia took 56.4%, Europe 34.1%, North America 8.4%, and others took 1.1%. By countries, Japan took 28.2%, Germany 23.9%, Taiwan 15.6%, and U.S.A only had 7.9%. It indicates that China has more trading with those countries/regions, which have advanced machinery manufacture industry, like Japan, Germany, and U.S.A. etc.
Attracting More Visitors from All Over the World
CIIF 2007 had totally 95,000 visitors, from 65 countries/regions and 30 domestic provinces, and 280 cities. 98.99% of foreign visitors were from Asia, 0.65% from Europe, 0.06% from Oceania. Obviously, Asian countries have geographic privilege. To domestic visitors, 93.7% were from east of china, 2.0% from north of china, and only 1.7% from the south. Most of visitors came from the most advanced regions of China, like Changjiang River Delta and Zhujiang River Delta, which are also what exhibitors care about the most. And the volume of total transaction of CIIF 2007 reached 4.88 billions RMB.
Exhibitors Want Space for CIIF 2008
With the progress of CIIF, exhibitors show more preference to us accordingly. Seeing so many professional visitors, to occupy a better position, some exhibitors were so pleased that to ask for signing contracts of 2008 even at the opening day of CIIF 2007. Some famous international companies even wanted to double the current space, such as ABB, Spinner. According to the datum from Shanghai Exhibition Institution, 50% of current exhibitors have been sure to be with us in 2008, 10% higher than last year; 47% are considering, 11% lower; and 3% will not participate, only 1% higher than last year. This research shows there are more exhibitors valuing us, and the loyalty of exhibitors is increasing. By the end of CIIF 2007, there had been 16% of exhibition space booked, which was 17,000sqm.

CIIF 2008 will take place at Shanghai New International Expo Center Nov. 4-8.

Industrial Automation Show (IAS) occupies 28,750sqm, with exhibits category as listed: Production Automation, Process Automation, Robotics, Electrical Systems, Industrial Automation, IT & Software, Microsystems Technology;
Energy Show (ES) takes 11,500sqm, with exhibits category as listed: Power Stations, Technology, Measurement and Control Equipment for Power Engineering, Power Generating Equipment, New Energy Technology, Electrical Energy Conversion, Distribution, Transmission and Conduction, Power Electronics and so on;
Information & Communication Technology Show (ICTS) takes 5750sqm, with exhibits as listed: Telecommunication and Network Products, Integrated Circuits and Electronic Components, Information Security, Display and AV Products, Computer Hardware and Software, Power and Relevant Products;
Environmental Protection Technology & Equipment Show (EPTES) takes 5750sqm, with exhibits category as listed: Water Treatment Technology and Equipment, Circulated Economy, Fume Purification and Air Extraction, Measuring, Control and Laboratory Technology, Waste Disposal and Recovery and Utilization Technology and Equipment;
Key technology & Equipment Show (KTES) takes 5750sqm, with exhibits category as listed: Large-scale Petrochemical Equipment, Large-scale Coal Chemical Industry Complete Set of Equipment, Large-scale Hot and Cold Rolling Sheet Complete Set of Equipment, Large-scale Underground Coal Integrated Mining Equipment, Large-scale Construction Machinery, New Textile Machinery, New Powerful Agricultural Equipment and so on.
Scientific & Technological Innovation Show (STIS) takes 11500sqm, with exhibits category as listed: Achievements from Scientific and Technological Innovation by Enterprises, Research Institutes, Colleges and Universities
It is believed that CIIF 2008 will have over 2000 exhibitors and 110,000 visitors. These visitors mainly come from 3 following ways. The Changjiang River Delta Economic Area will have 80,000, aiming to purchase, technology communicating, and market research; China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China National Aviation Holding Company, and other national-level corporations will provide about 12,000, mainly for buying equipments; Foreign countries, specially in Asian will have about 15,000 visitors, coming for purchase, technology communicating, and looking for diversified business cooperation.
Meanwhile, we will also organize over 20 high-level forums, inviting relevant experts and decision makers from the Organizers of CIIF to discuss about some hot issues, such as the trends of Chinese market.
